My house my rules: Weird House rules people had to follow

Imagine being in a house where you could be evicted for not following the rule book!

Sounds strange right? The “my house, my rules” thing has been annoying for most of us in our childhood. Although you would not be evicted from your own house for not following the rules, you probably would yourself like to get out of such a place having weird rules to follow. We heard numerous rules from our parents as a kid, which did never make any sense to us. Now that we’ve grown, we try to look back on them. Here is a curated list of the strangest rules people actually had to follow during childhood.

No drinking water during lunch/dinner

Although we are not sure if there is any scientific reason behind this, most families have this strange rule for their dinner table. So much so that at some houses people are not allowed to drink any liquid while having a meal. If you wonder why? The reason is having too much liquid will get you too full to finish the entire meal, and it could be wasted. Makes sense though!

The plastic covers

Probably our parents do this even now, covering every piece of furniture with a plastic cover to keep it clean. Some houses even had a plastic cover on their pathway throughout the house. The rule was, no one was permitted to walk on the carpet, anyone who stepped off the plastic cover could be in serious trouble.

Locked after 6

Most kids in their teenage wanted to stay up after dinner, while some families did not mind their kids staying awake on the couch or watching TV, some strange families did not allow it at all. After dinner, nobody was allowed to come out of their rooms except for taking a bathroom break. I’m sure it was all the 90s house rules, who would follow these today? I wouldn’t.

Boyfriends wait in the basement

Weirdest of all, if you have a boyfriend just pray you are not born to this family. The family surely welcomes boyfriends to attend functions. But, they had to keep waiting in the basement during the main event. Be it thanksgiving or while opening Christmas gifts. Poor them!

Let us thank God for not giving us a family with such strange rules! Would you follow them if they were applied to you?
