New NS160: Based on Existing N250 Platform

An NS160 prototype was recently caught testing on the Indian streets and therefore, we believe Bajaj is planning to replace the existing NS160 soon!

Since 2012, the NS line-up from Chakan-based manufacturer Bajaj has been one of the bestselling motorcycle line-ups in India. So much so that the company has regularly updated the motorcycle with minor tweaks as per the demands of the motorcycle enthusiasts. Not to forget, given the popularity of the NS200, the company also launched the NS160 and NS125.

The importance of this article

The young siblings were launched by the company for those riders who did not want an expensive NS with a massive engine. Now, the company is working on a new version of NS160; thanks to Zigwheels, who shared (on their website) the spy shots of the motorcycle in progress. In the following paragraphs, we have penned our opinion about the upcoming NS160.

New styling

The style factor of the younger NS siblings (NS160 and 125) has always been based on the elder NS200. However, the upcoming NS160 is based on the all-new N250. From the project headlight with LED DRLs to the body panels and the rear section, the motorcycle is truly identical to the N250. Therefore, it can be said that Bajaj is clearly focusing on its new platform, which means the existing NS200, 160 and 125 are likely to disappear from the market soon. If not, can they co-exist? At this point, we have no idea.

Different heartbeat

As mentioned in the above paragraph, Bajaj’s focus is on its new platform. Therefore, the NS160 is likely to feature an all-new platform, i.e., a fresh 160cc engine that is oil-cooled. At the moment, it is hard to comment about the power figures of the upcoming motorcycle. However, because the NS160 will take on rivals such as Apache, Gixxer, MT and a few more; around 18hp of power or more would make us thrilled.

Other features

As we are well aware, Bajaj is known for its cost-cutting finesse and therefore, we do not expect the upcoming NS160 to be a feature-rich motorcycle. A single-channel ABS is expected but terms such as traction control and slipper clutch are going to be missing from the brochure. Similar to the N250, it is prone to be armed with the same semi-digital instrument cluster.

Last but not the least, as per several sources, the upcoming NS160 will make its official debut by the end of May 2022 or in the first week of June 2022.
