Nostalgic Cars: From the World of Mr Bean

Remember that green four-wheeled companion of Mr Bean? It was a Leyland Mini 1000

For kids of the late nineties or 2000s, Mr Bean is a prominent personality even today. Played by Hollywood actor Rowan Atkinson, the comedy program and the cartoon version were telecasted on the channel named Pogo in India. Apart from the show and the cartoon version, two films were also produced. If you’ve ever viewed the show, you probably remember the green car Mr Bean used to drive. Apart from that iconic vehicle, there were several other cars featured in the show, cartoon and the movie, again and again. In this feature, we’ve composed a brief about those cars from the world of Mr Bean.

Leyland Mini 1000 Mark IV- The green two-door car of Mr Bean became a popular and iconic car because of the show. In practically every episode or throughout the movies, the car was shown to be operated by Mr Bean. If you’ve seen Mr Bean, you know his character was portrayed as a lonely one because he did not have many friends. However, the green Mark IV was his only steady partner and to him, it was more than a car.

The Leyland Mini was launched in 1977, and it was manufactured in the Mini’s Great Britain plant. The car was equipped with a 1-litre petrol engine that was turned to generate a peak power of 35hp and a torque figure of 70Nm. The car could hit a top speed of 130 kmph and had a front-wheel-drive setting.

Reliant Regal- Now that we are done with Mr Bean’s car, let’s talk about the blue coloured three-wheeled car which used to get toppled all the time. For reasons unknown, Mr Bean used to despise that car and so he used to topple it all the time in the show.

Manufactured by Reliant, the Regal was the successor of the Regent and as per the motor laws of the United Kingdom, one could operate the Regal with a two-wheeler motorcycle license since the car was treated as a tricycle. Under the hood, a 701cc engine was tuned to spawn 30hp of power and a peak torque of 65.71Nm. The Regal had a top speed capability of 104 kmph and could manage a 0 to 100 in 30 seconds. With less body weight and a light engine, the Regal was a remarkably economical car in Great Britain.
