Surrounded by different shades of green, flora, and fauna, Western Ghats is a paradise. Be it through the train or the road; the view is a delight to watch. Also known as the Sahyadris range of mountains, it stretches for 1600 km and touches the states of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Goa. A stretch of hill stations, biodiversity, waterfalls, wildlife sanctuaries, plantations, and temples, Western Ghats, is a wonderland for many reasons. Valparai
Cupped in the arms of the Anamalai Hills covered in a blanket of evergreen tropical forests, Valparai is a place to be. It is situated at 1500m above sea level the picturesque sights will make you hold your breath. One of the most sought-after destinations in the south of Western Ghats, Valparai is also a biodiversity hotspot and a plantation town. Fun fact, it is called the seventh heaven in Tamil Nadu. If you are lucky and respect the wild, you will get to witness elephants, tigers, and leopards roaming around the mountains. Also spotted are lion-tailed macaques, Nilgiri tahr, giant squirrels, and great Indian hornbills.
Thekkady
The home to the elephants, Thekkady, is located in the Cardamom Hills. These hills are the origin of the Periyar and Pamba rivers, as well as are home to the dense forests of the Periyar National Park. In fact, Thekkady is also a tiger reserve. Owing to its breathtaking beauty, the trip would be incomplete without a walk down the spice plantation in Murikkady, known for tea and spices cultivation. Other places to visit are Anakkara and Mangala Devi Temple.
Chikmagalur
Welcome to the Coffee Land of Karnataka! A famous hill station owing to its lush green forests, Chikmagalur is a synonym with coffee. Walk across any lane or road; the smell of coffee plantations will mesmerize you at every step. But one should also visit the waterfalls and their various heritage temples. Some places to visit in Chikmagalur are Sringeri Sharada Peetham, Coffee Museum Chikmagalur, Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary, and Hebbe Falls.
Mollem
It is a small village in Goa and a gateway to wild forests and waterfalls. Situated in the mountains, one can witness wild creatures. One can visit the Mollem National park, a trek to Dudhsagar falls, and Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary.
