If you love bird watching and gardening, you can enjoy the two activities by growing plants that attract birds, as well as butterflies, in your garden. Birds and butterflies are drawn to striking colours. Growing colourful flowering plants in your garden can make the space look more attractive and increase the chances of drawing in some fabulous creatures to admire. Here are some of the plants that attract birds and butterflies.

Explore the Grevillea species

There are many grevillea species that many birds strongly because of the nectar it produces. You can plant small ad large varieties of this plant to attract a diverse range of bird species. Its flowers are showy and offer plenty of nectar. Make sure to water them once a week. While this plant loves the sun, it does not like wet and soggy feet. Grow them on a slopping or raised garden bed to achieve the best results.

Consider the colourful and bright Portulaca

Portulaca can be grown in containers. You can place them on your deck. The flowers are in various shades -  yellow, pink, purple, white, red, and orange. The blossoms attract honeybees. The leaves are succulents and fleshy. Plus, they can tolerate the sun's strong rays. Make sure to plant it in well-draining soil.  Let the water dry out before watering it again.

Try the exotic Passiflora Incarnata

Passiflora, also known as the passion flower, is an evergreen climber. Its flowers look exotic and sometimes have fruits on them. The passion flowers are structured uniquely. They tend to attract butterflies and bees.

Deep blue Clitoria is quite attractive

ClitoriaTernatea, also known as Gokarna and butterfly pea, is a creeper. In India,  the plant is reportedly called Shankhpushpi. What's more, it can be grown easily even if you don't have much time to tend to it. The flower shade is a gorgeous deep blue or white. The fruits of this plant tend to look like peas. They reportedly attract butterflies. However, they are also well-liked by birds and bees. While it is important to water the plant regularly, make sure you do not overwater it.  These flowers bloom in the morning. They do not have any scent. Full sunlight will help you achieve the best flowering results. You could even nourish the plant once annually with a water-soluble fertilizer.
