Apart from Muay-Thai, the population of Thailand loves to play many other sports

As we all know, Thailand is the birthplace of the world-renowned combat sport Muay-Thai. Since its inception centuries ago, the Asian country has received many distinctions in Muay-Thai and has seen several legendary Muay-Thai fighters. In short, when it comes to sports, the country of Thailand is known for its Muay-Thai. However, plenty may not be aware that the population of Thailand loves to play many other sports. In this article, we have listed the alternative sports that are famous in Thailand.

Tennis- Tennis is an immensely popular sport in Thailand as thousands of individuals play this sport, not merely for recreation but also professionally. Over the years, several tennis players from Thailand have made an imprint in the world. From the men’s category, Paradorn Srichaphan is the most influential player who grew into the first Asian male tennis player to secure a rank in the top 10 ATP rankings. In the female category, Tamarine Tanasugarn is a name which enough may remember as, in 2002, she enjoyed the rank of no. 19 in the world.

Football- One of the most loved sports in the entire world, individuals in Thailand truly adore the game of football and their passion is reflected when local clubs take on each other in the Thai League. Since its inception in 1995, many foreign footballers have graced the Thai League. Not to forget, Premier League giant Manchester City signed several players from Thailand such as Teerasil Dangda, Kiatprawut Saiwaeo and Suree Sukha. Sadly, they never played for the first team of City, but getting attention from a Premier League club is a commendable achievement.

Golf- Considered a prosperous man’s sport, Golf is played by a considerable population of Thailand. Several players from Thailand have made it large in the world of golf. Some of the notable golf players from Thailand are Ariya Jutanugarn (11-time LPGA winner), Moriya (LPGA player) and Kiradech Aphibarnrat (PGA player). These are not the only stars from Thailand but players such as Jazz Janewattananond, Phachara Khongwatmai and Prayad Marksaeng have made it to the top 200 in the World Golf Ranking in 2017.

Apart from the mentioned sports, some other sports that are popular in the country of Thailand are badminton, snooker, kite-fighting and boat racing.
