Prasidh Krishna shines on inlt debut

Prasidh Krishna became the first Indian bowler to take four wickets on ODI debut. No other Indian bowler had taken more than three wickets on ODI debut before Krishna. Prasidh Krishna became the 17th Indian bowler to take three wickets on ODI debut when he registered figures of 8.1-1-54-4.

It came as a pleasant surprise when Prasidh Krishna was selected ahead of Navdeep Saini in the 3 match ODI series between India and England. Krishna had been on the radar of the Indian team management for some time but they were not able to create opportunities to blood him into international cricket.

Finally, when Krishna had impressive performances in the domestic 50-over Vijay Hazare Trophy prior to the ODI series between India and England, the team management and the selectors thought it apt to give the Karnataka youngster an opportunity.

Krishna has played 51 List A matches and has picked up 87 wickets from 51 games at an average of 23.48 and an economy of 5.28. India were looking for a hit the deck bowler who could also crank it up when need be. They found a good match in Krishna.

"It didn't start off well, and they came hard at us because we bowled poorly, but we had belief. We picked wickets in a cluster and that helped us a lot. I understood after my third over, I can't bowl full, and then I hit good length areas, and let the ball do the rest. IPL has helped me, but it's important in a 10-over format it's more important to come back," Krishna said after the match.

"I'd like to be known as a hit-the-deck bowler, and I'm trying to get the length more consistently, and I'm going to go back to the drawing board and improve upon it. I hope I can be the partnership breaker for long, because the team needed it at the time, so I was happy to do it. The talk from the beginning was that if we get one wicket it'll change things around and that's exactly what happened," he concluded.

After being taken to the cleaners by the England opening pair of Jonny Bairstow and Jason Roy in the first ODI in Pune, Krishna bounced back well to finish with four wickets including those of Ben Stokes, Sam Billings, Tom Curran and Jason Roy.

It was an effort which the young fast bowler would be proud of. India went on to win the match by 66 runs.
