Protect your skin from harsh laptop light
If you didn’t know, the light from laptops is just as damaging to the skin as the sun's rays
For most of us, today’s time is about working from home and spending time in front of the computer screen. While we might think the skin is protected from the harsh sun rays, our skin is at risk due to the light emitted from our laptops and smartphones as we hold them too close to our faces.
Technology damage skin Similar to environmental skin damage, the skin cells are impacted on a deeper level, damaging even the last layer of the skin. The reason we witness wrinkles at a young age and even our skin and neck start to sag since we are constantly looking down on the screens. In a natural course of action, our skin starts to lose a lot of collagen that is helpful in building skin immunity.
Photoaging The heavy exposure to UV rays and the blue light from the screen causes excess melanin cell production and white patches called hyperpigmentation. It also affects the sleep cycle and shows signs of photoaging under the eyes, dry eye, redness, discomfort, and blurred vision. The long screen hours makes our skin dull, patchy, pale and tired.
Set your priorities right To begin with, get proper sleep, drink enough water, eat complete nutritious food and also blink more often while using any appliances. And since the skin under the eye is 40 percent lighter and sensitive, be aware of dark circles. Especially during summers, as the pores enlarge because of the heat and then sitting in front of the laptop increases the risk of damage.
Experts recommend Placing an outer screen cover over the laptop and put the phone on night mode. To further, curb the skin damage experts’ advice using anti-oxidant based skincare products. As the premature aging takes place due to the production of free radicals, using a topical solution enriched with anti-oxidants and skin-friendly vitamins like C and E.
Be mindful Keep the screen at a one-arm distance and apply sunscreen before sitting in front of the laptop. Or else moisturize your skin regularly and take breathers after every 30 minutes for one or two minutes. Apply a face pack of turmeric and curd - natural moisturizers and anti-oxidants - twice or thrice a week. Even aloe vera gel or a facial mist spray can help prevent the damage.
This light causes a hundred times more damage than the sun's rays since the screens are way too close to our faces. The light from the laptop damaging the skin is for real. While it may sound big, the ways of dealing with it is simple.
