Reasons why you must visit Rajasthan at least once in your life

Heritage hotels, colourful cities and camel rides make Rajasthan an absolute delight.

Rajasthan has run under the moniker of the land of the kings, but Rajputana is just one of the few things it can offer. India’s largest state is a bewilderment of its own. And rightly so, considering the countless forts, colours and festivals that crown its cities and hamlets.

Here are the reasons why you must visit Rajasthan at least once in your life.

  1. Colours will blow your mind- Jaipur is filled with pink terracotta houses; Jaisalmer was built on yellow sandstone and is surrounded by the golden Thar sand, and Jodhpur’s name owes to the fact that this city houses 10 kilometres of indigo walls. Such uniformity, much wow.
  2. Where else can you get camel rides? – If you visit Rajasthan you must go on a camel ride on the golden sand dunes of Jaisalmer.
  3. Dal baati churma is just the beginning- Rajasthani food comes straight from the royal kitchen. Dal baati churma and gatte ki sabzi you must try. Rajasthan offers gastronomical delights like no other and leaves you wanting more.
  4. Their traditional attire will make you lose interest in your drab clothes- Get into the local mood by dressing in their traditional, vibrant lehenga choli and odhni, all meticulously completed with sequin, glasswork, corals and shells. The clothes you own will look drab after this.
  5. Festivals that will make you come back each year- Your visit to the royal state will also include some of the most ethnically colourful festivals you have seen in your life. Kite Festival, Teej Festival, the vibrant Pushkar Fair will make your own festivals a run for their money.
  6. Heritage accommodation, anyone? – Rajasthan’s palaces-turned-hotels will really make you feel like royalty. Grandeur, warm ambience and the excellent locations of these heritage hotels will make you relish Rajasthan even more.
  7. Forts, mahals and so much more- Visiting the forts means leaning into the rich history of this Rajput state. There’s Ajmer Fort, there’s Chittorgarh Fort, there’s Jaisalmer Fort and many more to choose from. Don’t forget to visit Hawa Mahal for the architectural wonder that it is.
  8. Do it for the dance- Rajasthan, famous for its Kalbelia Dance, must be experienced. The Puppet Dance, or the Katputhli Dance, is quintessential Rajasthani dance. Their unique music is enthralling, and you will carry the tune with you even after you leave.
