Remaking Anand!!FewClassics Bollywood Shouldn’t Even Think about Remaking (Part I)

The news of Bollywood remaking the classic ‘Anand’ is doing rounds from couple of days and there can’t be anything more catastrophic than this. Nothing against remakes and sequels, as both Don and Agneepath remakes were quite good movies but there are some movies that can't be simply remade and Anand is one of them.Remember what Bollywood did with Sholay remake? Here are some of theall-time classic Bollywood movies that better remains untouched

Anand

Directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee Anand featured Rajesh Khanna in the titular role while Amitabh Bachchan was in a supporting role.

Anand tells the story of a man who is suffering from an incurable disease and he can’t live more than a few months and how he tries to get the best out of his remaining days is what the movie is about. The movie is a life lesson about life should be bigger and not longer. Rajesh Khanna played Anand and immortalized the character with his act. Amitabh Bachchan played the supporting role of his doctor and he won Filmfare Award for best actor for supporting role for his acting. The news of Bollywood trying to remake shocked us and we pray to God that this should not materialize as some classics needed to be untouched.

Guide

With the unparalleled charm of Dev Anand, the beauty and dancing prowess of Waheeda Rahman, the music of S.D Burman, and the magical direction of Vijay Anand, Guide is a classic that should not be touched at all.

Some years before the news came that noted Bengali filmmaker Rituparno Ghosh is contemplating on remaking Guide with Akshay Kumar and VidyaBalan and due respect to the late filmmaker, we thank God that things didn’t materialize. Guide is a movie based on the book of R.K Narayan of the same name and it was a movie that was ahead of its time as it shows a married woman living with another man for the first time in Indian cinema. With great music by S.D Burman, Guide is a movie that should not be remade at any cost.

Mughal-E-Azam

Mughal-E-Azam was K.Asif’s magnum opus set in the Mughal era and it tells the love story of Prince Salim and a court dancer Anarkali. It’s one of the classics of Indian cinema that should be remained untouched.

Mughal-E-Azam was the costliest movie made till then and when the budget of movies at that time didn’t exceed 5 lakhs rupees, Mughal-E-Azam was made with a budget of 1 crore, an amount unheard of that time. It was K.Asif’s dream project and he left no stone unturned to realize his dreams. It had a stellar cast of Prithiviraj Kapoor as Emperor Akbar, Dilip Kumar as Prince Salim, and Madhubala as Anarkali. Everyone related to this movie was passionate about the movie and Madhubala completed the movie while suffering from an incurable disease that took her life afterward. It’s one movie that can’t be remade and should not be at any cost.
