Scientific discoveries were found trapped in ice
There is a mysterious, baffling world full of unanswered questions under the deep layers of ice.
There is a world of ice waiting to be discovered.
Scientists have unfolded many mysteries that are not only buried but are preserved in ice. Some of these things are bizarre and mind-boggling, and some truly spectacular. There is a specialized field that studies and excavate things buried deep in the icecalled glacial archaeology, which let us know a lot more about the world buried in ice. So, brace yourself as we take you through some interesting, bizarre, and mysterious things that are found buried deep in the ice.
The brain of a mammoth which is around 39,000 years old.
Scientistshave unravelled the brain of a woolly mammoth. The mammoth, however, was not found in some ice patch instead in the permafrost of the Laptev Sea coast. Interestingly, the brain seems to be perfectly preserved and is fully intact, keeping in mind the fact that it is about 39,000 years old.
Do you know that alligators can survive even when they are frozen in ice?
Do not think that the only thing you would find trapped in ice would be fossils. Not everyone dies being an icicle; for example, alligators can survive and thrive even when they are trapped frozen. They can preserve their internal organs successfully in a cold, frozen state. The frozen state led them to a state of hibernation, and they could successfully survive being trapped in the ice.
Not all the discoveries throw light on our past; some are just visually fascinating.
Some of the discoveries are visually so fascinating that you can’t help marvelling over them. The fact that they are frozen in action makes it even more fascinating. A fisherman recently was able to retrieve a frozen fish that is in the process of eating other smaller fish. It seems strange to see the work of nature in the strangest way possible.
The ancient traces of the great Vikings.
Scientists have found traces of Viking’s several glaciers, which shed a lot of light on their life. In Norway, scientists were able to excavate several Viking gears. The most prominent amongst all was reindeer-manufactured gear alongside arrows, sticks, and bows. All these things are estimated to be about 3,400 years old. They also found many interesting and genius traps where they could cleverly trap reindeer for hunting.
There are still many more discoveries coming from glacial archaeology that would not only excite but baffle us too.
