Self-care isn’t about being selfish; instead, it is about taking out time to take care of self and indulging in activities that can help promote physical, mental and emotional well-being.

Here are a few tips you can follow for a healthier and happier you.

Tip 1: Pay attention to self

Acknowledge yourself and make sure to take out at least 10 minutes for yourself. Be it in the morning, after work or at night. It may take a little practice to take this time out every single day, but it’s worth it. Take a few deep breaths, sit down with your thoughts and refuel yourself with positive energy.

Tip 2: Take proper sleep

Adequate sleep is essential for mental as well as physical health. A healthy adult should sleep for 7-9 hours daily. During sleep, your brain gets rid of harmful toxins, consolidates memory and calms your mind.

Tip 3: Exercise regularly

Practice a few exercises or perform any physical activity for thirty minutes every day. Whether you are walking, running, swimming or doing any physical activity, staying active should be an important part of your self-care routine. Exercising helps you to boost your mood, reduce stress and anxiety and achieve good health.

Tip 4: Take care of your food

Eating healthy, fresh foods contribute to a healthy body and mind. The foods we eat have a direct impact on the functioning of our organ systems, so eat the right foods and never skip meals. Some of the fantastic self-care foods are green vegetables, low-fructose content fruits, health nuts, berries, etc.

Tip 5: Social Media Detox

Completely switch-off your social media for a few hours a day or before going to bed and use that time to enjoy self-care. Utilize your detox time to read a book, paint, cook, nurture plants at home or do any other activity that you love to do.

Tip 6: Learn a new skill

Try something new and learn a skill that you gave up earlier due to lack of time. Take a new class, learn to dance, play a musical instrument or adopt a new skill as learning helps our brain to thrive and relax.

Tip 7: Stay away from negativity

Never allow negative thoughts to affect your mental well-being. Whenever in self doubt or surrounded by negativity, try to write down everything on a piece of paper and don’t allow negatives to overtake the positives in your life.
