Yash Chopra is one of the most well-known and iconic directors from Bollywood who gave many classic movies in his career spanning more than forty years. He is remembered as the King of Romance as he gave us some of the greatest love stories on celluloid but he made movies in various genres also. He is the one who made Switzerland famous in India and actresses never looked better with dancing in the Alps with chiffon sarees which later became a trademark style of Yash Chopra movies. Here are seven classic movies of Yash Chopra that every cinema lover must watch.

 Waqt (1965)

The 1965 movie Waqt is considered to be the first multistarrer movie in Bollywood and it started the trend of casting many actors together in a movie known as multistarrer movie.

Waqt was directed by Yash Chopra under the banner of his brother B.R Chopra. It featured an ensemble cast of actors including BalrajSahni, AchalaSachdev, Sunil Dutt, Rajkumar, Shashi Kapoor, Sadhana, and Sharmila Tagore. Waqt was a blockbuster and started the trend of lost and found movies with a big star cast which was followed by many filmmakers later like Manmohan Desai, Prakash Mehra, etc. The movie is remembered for its storyline and memorable songs.

Daag: A Poem of Love (1973)

Daag: A Poem of Love starring Rajesh Khanna, Sharmila Tagore, and Rakhee is the first movie Yash Chopra made under his own banner, Yashraj Films.

Yash Chopra made Daag in 1973 when Rajesh Khanna’s superstardom was at its peak. It also featured Sharmila Tagore and Rakhee as female leads. The movie was adapted from the novel The Mayor of Casterbridge by Thomas Hardy. It was one of the very few movies of that time that showed polygamy. The movie was about a young man played by Rajesh Khanna who after getting trapped in a murder case, gets a new identity with a new wife leaving behind his first wife. It was a major hit at the box office and gave a very big push to Rajesh Khanna’s stardom.

Deewar (1975)

Any discussion about Hindi cinema is not complete without mentioning the classic movie Deewar featuring Amitabh Bachchan and Shashi Kapoor.

Deewar is an iconic movie not only in the career of Yash Chopra but also of Indian cinema and Amitabh Bachchan. Deewar is the story of two warring brothers Vijay (Amitabh Bachchan) and Ravi (Shashi Kapoor) who are standing on two different sides of the law. It’s a classic in every sense and it’s the movie that gave Amitabh Bachchan the image of ‘Angry Young Man’, which he continued in many more movies in the future.Deewar won many Filmafare Awards that year including best director, best movie, best supporting actor but surprisingly Amitabh Bachchan didn’t get award for best actor as it was given to Sanjeev Kumar for Khilona.
