Seven Top Movies of Mahesh Bhatt You Must Watch (Part II)

Continuing from the first part of the story, here are a few more cinematic gems by the veteran director Mahesh Bhatt you should not miss.

Dil Hain Ki MaantaNahi (1991)

Dil Hain Ki MaantaNahi is the first full-fledged romantic movie by Mahesh Bhatt. The movie stars Aamir Khan and Pooja Bhatt in lead roles.

Dil Hain Ki MaantaNahi was inspired by the classic Hollywood rom-com It Happned One Night. The movie had some great performances, especially by Aamir Khan as Raghu Jetley, an aspiring journalist. It had some beautiful songs and the music was composed by Nadeem-Sharavan. It was a full masala commercial movie with perfect doses of romance, comedy, and emotions and did pretty well at the box office.

Hum Hain RahiPyaarKe (1993)

Hum Hain RahiPyaarKe was the second collaboration between Aamir Khan and Mahesh Bhatt and it stars Juhi Chawla opposite Aamir Khan in the main lead. The movie also had Kunal Khemu as a child artist.

Hum Hain RahiPyaarke is a 1993 romantic comedy family drama movie featuring Aamir Khan and Juhi Chawla as the main leads. It was one of the very few comedy movies Mahesh Bhatt directed and the humor in the movie was actually very good without being crass and below the belt. It follows the story of Rahul Malhotra (Aamir Khan) who has to take care of his sister’s three kids after his sister and her husband dies in a car accident. Partly inspired by the Hollywood movie Houseboat, it’s a clean family entertainer movie that you can watch with your whole family and enjoy.

Sadak (1991)

Sadak starring Sanjay Dutt and Pooja Bhatt is one of the biggest hits of Mahesh Bhatt’s career. The movie is also remembered for its memorable songs with music by Nadeem Sharavan.

Sadak was inspired by the Robert De Niro starrer Hollywood classic Taxi Driver and here just like the original Sanjay Dutt plays a taxi driver suffering from insomnia because of a past tragedy. He was living a meaningless life and he founds the purpose of his life after meeting Pooja, a prostitute he makes saving her from the clutches of evil brothel owner Maharani played brilliantly by Sadashiv Amrapurkar.

Zakhm (1998)

Zakhm starring Ajay Devgn and SonaliBendre was the last movie of Mahesh Bhatt before announcing his retirement. Set during the 1993 riots, Zakhm is a poignant tale about a Hindu man with a Muslim mother.

Zakhm undoubtedly is a milestone of both Mahesh Bhatt’s and its leading man Ajay Devgn’s career. The movie also starred Nagarjuna, Pooja Bhatt, SonaliBendre, and Kunal Khemu as young Ajay Devgn, who all gave a brilliant performances in the movie. Ajay Devgn won a National Award for Best Actor for his subtle and brilliant performance in the movie. The story of the movie is partly based on the life of Mahesh Bhatt himself who was a son of a Hindu man and a Muslim woman. The movie was not a big commercial success but it’s considered a cult classic movie today.
