Shubman Gill, India's bright prospect

Shubman Gill was one of the architects of India's under 19 World Cup victory in 2018.

Under-19 star When the Indian under 19 boys won the 2018 under 19 ICC Cricket World Cup, bowlers like Kamlesh Nagarkoti and ShivamMavi made a mark for their rapid pace. Among the batters, Shubman Gill and Prithvi Shaw stood out.

Shubman Gill in fact finished as the highest run scorer in the competition and was earmarked for greatness. While Prithvi Shaw appeared to be the more explosive of the two, those in the know maintained that Gill was the one with more inherent talent and would go on to be a consistent player for India in the times to come.

Although Gill has not been able to perform that consistently, he has shown glimpses of his capability. His 90 odd at the Gabba in the fourth innings which took India to a historic test and series victory is placed at the forefront of what Gill has achieved in his short International career.

He has been on and off as India's test opener with KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma moving ahead of him in the pecking order.

KKR's loss, Gujarat Titans' gain It came as a surprise when Shubman Gill was released by Kolkata Knight Riders before the IPL 2022 mega auctions. KKR's loss was Gujarat Titans' gain who swept him up in the auctions.

Gill did a terrific job for the franchise and was their second highest run scorer behind captain Hardik Pandya. Gill made 483 runs from 16 innings at an average of 34.50 and a strike rate of 132.32.

He struck four half centuries with his best of 96 and fell just four shy of his maiden IPL century. This is after he was embroiled in a few unfortunate dismissals including two run outs.

Hitting the winning runs Gill reiterated that has class on his side as he hit the winning runs to help Gujarat Titans create history by lifting the IPL trophy in their first year in the competition.

The likes of Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul will prove tough to dislodge for Shubman Gill but once these players have had their career's length, the likes of Shubman Gill and Prithvi Shaw are the stars of the next generation and the selectors won't be able to hold them back for much longer.
