Signs that your body needs Omega-3 fatty acid.

Today, we all include Omega-3 fatty acids in our diet. But what is it?

Omega-3 is a polyunsaturated fatty acid (commonly known as PUFA) that acts as a vital component of our cell membranes. It produces Eicosanoids or signalling molecules in our body. Eicosanoids improve our immune system, endocrine system and cardiovascular system.

The number in Omega-3 refers to the group of three fatty acids. Such as:

ALA or alpha- linolenic acid.

EPA or eicosapentaenoic acid.

DHA or docosahexaenoic acid.

These fatty acids come from different animals and vegetables, and their deficiency can lead to various health crises. Here are the potential signs and symptoms that our body is suffering from Omega-3 deficiency:

Effect on skin: Omega-3 fatty acid is responsible for building the cell membrane to protect our skin from harmful UV rays, pollution and bacteria. It also removes toxins from the skin and absorbs nutrients. But Omega-3 deficiency can damage this skin barrier, causing skin irritation or skin dryness. Dandruff, brittle hair, and creaked or thin nails are other symptoms of Omega-3 deficiency.

Effect on memory: APA and EPA in Omega- 3 fatty acids help reduce anxiety and depression, whereas DHA plays a vital role in-memory processing and concentration. Therefore, a decrease in essential fatty acids levels can result in memory loss, lack of attentiveness, depression, headache or fatigue.

Effect on heart: Omega-3 fatty acids increase the level of HDL (High-Density Lipoprotein) in our body. But, the type of food we eat today increases the deposit of LDL (Low-Density Lipoprotein) in our bodies. The deficiency of Omega-3 decreases the level of HDL, causing the risk of high cholesterol and vital heart diseases. It also causes fat deposits in different parts of our bodies.

Effect on eyes: About 60% of our retina contains DHA. Therefore, deficiency of Omega-3 can result in lower vision and dry eyes. According to research, foods rich in essential fatty acids in our body can prevent eye disease such as age-related macular degeneration (ADA).

Effect on body heat: Omega-3 fatty acid has anti-inflammatory. Therefore, a decrease in the level of essential fatty acids causes inflammation. It increases the heat in our body, causing inflammatory diseases such as allergy, hepatitis, arthritis and inflammatory acne.

We need to include Omega-3 fatty acids in our diet. Various essential fatty acids' sources are chia seeds, flax seeds, soybean, walnuts, and spinach. So add Omega-3 to your diet and live healthily.
