Simple Beauty Tips To Minimize Large Pores

It may be impossible to get rid of large pores, but there are ways to minimize them, to make them seem smaller while keeping the skin supple and preventing the pores from getting clogged.

Pores are the minute openings in the skin that release sweat and oils. They are also connected to our hair follicles. Sometimes pores tend to appear larger, and it may be due to acne, increased secretion of sebum, sun damage, and non-comedogenic makeup. Although you cannot alter the size of your pores, some simple beauty techniques can effectively minimize their appearance. Check out the tips below.

Opt for water-based products

Dermatologists recommend the use of oil-free products and encourage the application of water-based makeup. If you have oily skin, you will likely benefit from products that are high in humectants (urea and honey) instead of oils. Oil-based products usually contain coconut oil, petrolatum, and other types of oil. They are good for moisturizing the skin but are not suitable for people with large pores and oily skin, as the excess oil can make the pores appear larger.

Pick gel-based cleansers

A gel-based cleanser is what you should opt for if you have oily skin and want to minimize the size of your pores. It is best to avoid alcohol-based or oil-based cleansers, as these can irritate your skin. Avoid moisturizing cleansers as they may leave residue in the pores and add oiliness. A gel-based cleanser will help clear oil from the pores, making them appear smaller.

Exfoliate your skin with AHAs or BHAs

Dermatologists recommend exfoliating once or twice every week. Exfoliation will help you get rid of excess flakes that tend to clog your pores. Opt for exfoliants with AHAs (alpha-hydroxy acids) or BHAs (beta-hydroxy acids). BHAs, a.k.a salicylic acids, should not be used if you are allergic to aspirin. Both AHAs and BHAs can maximize your benefits of exfoliating, but the latter can penetrate deeper into the pores.

Moisturize for balanced hydration

People with oily skin make the most common mistake of skipping out on moisturizers to avoid adding more oil to their skin. But in reality, moisturizing products help natural sebum penetrate deeper into the layers of your skin. It not only mitigates the oiliness but also conditions the skin.

Use a clay mask

Apply a clay mask one or two times a week to help remove additional oil from the pores. Clay effectively absorbs sebum, thereby removing excess oil and preventing pores from enlarging. It is suggested to use a clay mask on a different day than exfoliating to avoid overtreating the skin as that may result in irritation.

Follow the simple beauty tips above to treat your skin better and minimize the size of your pores.
