Simple Tips On Dating Etiquette: Dos And Don’ts

Whether you are just entering the dating scene or are a seasoned veteran, it is always a good idea to follow proper etiquette during your dates.

After all, you will certainly make a better first impression if you are concerned about making the other person comfortable, which is what dating etiquette is all about. Just as there are rules in virtually any game that is played, the dating game involves some rules too. Here are some dos and don’ts of dating that can help you on your next date.

Don’t be late

If you show up to a date an hour late with no reasonable explanation, you're already starting off on the wrong foot. It's rude to keep anyone waiting, especially your date. If you know you will be running behind, let your date know ahead of time.

Do be patient

If people are not responsive, you need to be patient. After sending a message wait for the response and do not multi-text. You may find out that some people take few days to respond or don't respond at all. At that point, you might want to consider if it is worth pursuing or not.

Don’t be rude

No matter what type of day you have had, be polite to your date. This rule is true whether this is your first date or your seventy-first date. Dates are supposed to be enjoyable, not uncomfortable. You should also be polite to the other people you encounter on your date, including servers. You will undoubtedly make your date feel uneasy if you snap at the waitress.

Do be considerate

Make eye contact to demonstrate your interest in your date. Also, if you take your date somewhere, don't abandon him or her. Your date should feel important to you. If you go out with someone older or younger than you, consider the place you are thinking about taking them and whether they would enjoy it. Forinstance, it wouldn't be the best idea to take a 20-year-old to your favorite bar.

Don’t mislead

Be yourself and don't pretend to be someone you are not. You want to present an accurate portrayal of who you are while also putting your best foot forward. Try to be honest with your date and let them know, as kindly as possible, that you are not interested in continuing the relationship if you aren't feeling a spark.

Do mention preferences and restrictions

If you are on a specific diet or have unique food restrictions, let your date know before meeting them. Consider making a suggestion yourself so your date doesn't feel overwhelmed.

Remember, when it comes to first date etiquette, it's usually all about trying to take your awesome self up a notch.
