Six Essential Tips You Should Keep In Mind During Your Caravan Adventure

Are you heading out for your first caravan adventure? Here’s a guide to making your adventure on wheels more exciting!

Caravan trips can amp up any holiday. But one needs to consider important factors like what essentials to carry during the trip, where to park, and what time to begin the journey. Here are a bunch of helpful tips to ensure a smooth, safe, and enjoyable journey.

Get a rear number plate

You will require a spare number plate on your caravan’s rear, and it needs to match the car’s number plate that you are towing it with. Note that a makeshift cardboard number plate will not work.

Get access to items of water supply

You will require some essential items to ensure consistent access to fresh water during the caravanning trip, apart from the water stored in your caravan’s water tank. Consider including brass hose fittings, inline water filters, collapsible buckets, drinking water hoses, tap keys, and the like.

Create a caravan set-up routine

If you have spent a lot of time driving, the last thing you would want is to spend hours preparing the site. Every caravan is different, and so is the installation process. But your first step should be unhitching the caravan and emptying your vehicle. After this, level your caravan, let down all the corner steadies, and connect the water and gas systems to the power. Next, you need to head inside your vehicle and check the water and power supplies: taps, heating, fridge, oven, etc.

Carry a fire extinguisher and a fire bucket

You will need fire buckets to light up tent fires, and fire extinguishers can be used to extinguish on-board fires like pan fires.

Do not forget a wastewater carrier

Carry a wastewater carrier to collect the ‘grey’ water released from your sink or shower. Make sure you have access to Flexi waste pipes – these pipes plug into the waste drain points in caravans and accumulate all the waste into a container.

Towing mirrors are an essential

When you are towing a caravan, you should be able to view at least twenty meters behind and four metres on both sides of the caravan. Almost every tow vehicle requires additional towing mirrors. Towing mirrors are generally fitted to the wing mirrors using a strap, suction, or clamp.

If you are new to caravanning, follow the above tips to execute a successful and safe trip.
