The plants on water bodies are called aquatic plants and flowers bloom on most of such plants. There are many varieties and species of aquatic plants all across the world. Here we have curated a list of the seven most beautiful aquatic plants in the world.

Water Lily 

Water lily is the most common and beautiful aquatic plant in the world and it’s found in almost all countries across the globe. 

Water lilies are a very beautiful aquatic plant found in ponds. These aquatic plants are not exclusive to any region or country and can be seen in almost all countries barring a few exceptions like some Middle East countries where there are no lakes or ponds. Water lilies come in different shapes, sizes, and colors and they look very beautiful. It is assumed that there are around 70 different species of water lilies found till now.

Lotus

Lotus probably is among the top three most beautiful aquatic plants and it’s considered very sacred in religions like Hinduism and Buddhism.

Lotuses bloom in shallow lakes and ponds. One thing about lotus is that they can’t grow in cold climates because direct sunlight is needed for them to bloom. Lotuses generally come in pink or white colors. The roots of lotuses grow in the mud of ponds and the flowers and leaves float in the water. It looks very beautiful and it can grow up to a length of up to 20 inches and the flower can reach 8 inches in diameter. The stem of the lotus is used as a vegetable in many countries and it normally blooms between June to mid-August. Lotuses open in the morning and close in the evening and along with looking beautiful, it also emits a pleasant fruity fragrance.

Water Hyacinth

Water hyacinth is an attractive floating aquatic plant and it’s found mostly in tropical South America. 

Hyacinth usually blooms in ponds, streams, lakes, and ditches. These beautiful-looking plants are well-known for their dense, shiny, rounded leaves and prominent blue to violet flowers. Water hyacinths typically grow up to 1 meter above the water surface and their leaves grow 4-8 inches across. The stem of this plant is long and spongy. These attractive flowers with 6 petals bloom during the summertime.
