Six Signs That Indicate You Are A People Pleaser

You cannot make everyone happy, period. People-pleasing often stems from low self-worth, low self-esteem, lack of confidence, and fear of rejection.

People-pleasing might make people around you happy, but this habit takes a toll on your mental well-being and health. We are not asking you to stop being nice to others, but it can become a problem when it gives you anxiety and stress. Therefore it is essential to identify certain signs that indicate you are a chronic people pleaser and eliminate those habits to ensure your well-being and mental peace.

You agree to everything.

Agreeing to everything and everyone may not be bad. However, you need to put forth your opinion too. Agreeing with people all the time might indicate that you are spineless and have no opinion of your own about what is being discussed. Therefore, always saying yes is not a good idea.

You apologize all the time.

People pleasers live in the constant fear of losing people with their actions or words. Even at times when they are not at fault, they tend to take all the blame on themselves and apologize for mistakes they have not committed. This guilt is unnecessary and will burden you, and it might make things stressful for you.

You think your actions are responsible for how others feel.

It is essential to understand how your behaviour can influence others, but if you think you have the power and ability to make everyone happy, that can be a problem. Every individual is responsible for their own emotional well-being and happiness.

You get uncomfortable when someone is mad at you.

If someone is mad or upset with you, it does not necessarily mean it is your fault. But if you cannot deal with the thought of someone being offended at you, you will likely compromise your values to please them.

You need validation from others to feel good.

While kind words and compliments can make everyone feel good, people-pleasers solely depend on validation from others. If your accomplishments and self-worth rest entirely on others' opinions about you, you can feel good only when other people shower you with praises.

You try to avoid conflicts at all costs.

It is always good not to want to start a conflict with anyone. But if you are avoiding conflicts at all costs, it means you will eventually struggle to stand up for the things and ideas you believe in.

You must understand that being subservient all the time can backfire, so be nice to people but nicer to yourself!
