Small Pets to Adopt If You Have a Dog

Here are small pets to adopt if you already have a dog.

If you already have a dog but would like to adopt another pet, opt for a small one. Most pet owners worry about how their pet will adjust to a new companion. It can be a whole new change for everyone involved. However, it doesn't have to be a big problem. The important thing is to pick an animal that won't antagonize your dog or one that your dog won't attack. Luckily, there are many small pets that could be a great companion to you and your canine pal. However, it also depends on both animals' personalities. A new addition to your little family can be exciting. However, it is best to do a little research and seek expert advice on the kind of small pet you would like to welcome to your home. In the meantime, here are a few small pets to consider adopting if you already have a dog.

Birds

This may sound like a nightmarish combination. However, birds and dogs can coexist for the most part. While the two pets may not be able to play with each other, they can certainly admire one another from a safe distance. Make sure that you take the right steps to introduce the two animals properly. If you feel that your dog's strong hunting instincts are coming out around the bird, it is best to leave your small pet in their cage, especially when you are not around.

Cats

Despite what most people think, cats and dogs can get along without seeing each other as war opponents. However, if you want to adopt a cat, you need to make sure that its personality won't clash with your dog. They will need some time to adjust to one another. So take your time with the introductions and be patient. In time, your cat and dog should be able to live together without having to be on guard or needing you to monitor their interactions.

Guinea pigs

Guinea pigs are adorable little creatures. However, don't be in a rush to introduce them to your dog. This process has to be done carefully. Make sure you follow the right strategies. Eventually, when they warm up to each other they could become great friends. However, be around to supervise when your dog and guinea pig are in the same room with each other
