Small Roles Performed By Now Famous Actors Before Getting Their Big Break (Part I)

Sometimes many aspiring actors agree to play small miss and blink roles just to sustain themselves in Mumbai.

Everyday hundreds of aspiring actors come to Mumbai to fulfill their dreams of working in Bollywood either as actors or in the field they are interested in. But making it big in Bollywood without any filmy connection is very tough no matter how talented you are. You need to go through many steps like giving auditions, meeting casting directors, and sending your portfolio to producers and directors. Sometimes many aspiring actors agree to play small miss and blink roles just to sustain themselves in Mumbai. Here is a list of now-famous actors who did small roles during their struggling days.

Nawazuddin Siddique

Nawazuddin Siddique is one of the best actors in the Hindi film industry but he did quite a few small ones before making it big.

Nawazuddin Siddique is a name that needs no introduction. Definitely one of the finest actors of Bollywood, he has been part of many successful movies and is one of the most sought-after actors today. But his journey was not an easy one; he struggled for many years to reach where he is today. He did a miss and blink role in movies like Sarfarosh and Shool and had a five minutes role in the movie Munnabhai MBBS. After Gangs of Wasseypur, people started to recognize his talent and since then he played major parts in many successful and critically acclaimed movies like The Lunchbox, Kick, Kahani, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, among others.

Manoj Bajpai

Manoj Bajpai made it big after playing the character of Bhiku Mhatre in Ram Gopal Varma’s classic gangster flick Satya in 1998.

Manoj Bajpai is regarded as one of the best actors in Bollywood and is a winner of two National Awards. He started his career with Mahesh Bhatt’s TV series Swabhiman and did small roles in movies like Bandit Queen, Drohkaal, Daud, among others. While working in Daud, which was helmed by Ramgopal Varma, the director recognised his talent and gave him a very important role in his next movie Satya. Though south actor Chakravarty played the lead role, it was Manoj Bajpai as Bhiku Mhatre who stole the show and since then there has been no looking back for him.

Shahid Kapoor

Shahid Kapoor is one of the top actors in Bollywood today but his journey was not a cakewalk despite being the son of well-known actor Pankaj Kapoor.

Shahid Kapoor is the son of famous actor Pankaj Kapoor and Neelima Azmi. After his parents got divorced, he lived in Delhi for quite a few years. He first appeared in a Pepsi ad that also featured Shahrukh Khan and Rani Mukherjee. Then he appeared in a music video by the famous 90s band Aryans. He never used his father’s name to get roles and whatever he is today is because of his dedication and hard work. He also did a miss and blink appearance in the song ‘Kahin Aag lage Lag Jaave’ in the movie Taal featuring Aishwarya Rai.
