Some cool libraries and book stores that you could spend the night in.

To all the book lovers out there, these libraries and bookstores are everything you dreamed and wished for.

Ask any bibliophile; nothing comforts them like a book. Seriously, what better way to relax than to have a library at your disposal and you could drink, eat, sleep there? There are many libraries and bookstores all over the world that accommodate passionate readers and let them have a wonderful time surrounded by books.

Shakespeare and Company, Paris.

A passionate booklover named George Whitman started his own bookshop in Paris in the year 1951. He started this bookshop with a simple motto that his shop would welcome everyone and would not be partial to any. So, whoever you are, you can stay in this bookstore for free; yes, you heard it right, free. But you have to agree to certain conditions; firstly, you must read one book a day, secondly, help with the bookstore for few hours and lastly, leave a page-long autobiography before you leave. Whitman calls these autobiographies “Tumbleweed”, and he has accumulated about 30,000 Tumbleweed till now.

Sylvia Beach Hotel, Newport.

The founder of the original Shakespeare and Company bookstore in Paris in the year 1919 was Sylvia Beach. She was also George Whitman’s inspiration behind restarting the bookshop in the 50s. This original shop was considered as a literary hub for all the great American writers in Paris, such as T.S. Elliot. Hemingway etc. The store was closed due to the Nazi invasion of Paris in 1941. Now, the name Sylvia Beach is immortalized in a beachfront inn in Oregon. The rooms are inspired by famous writers such as Dickinson, Shakespeare etc. The inn has a homely and extensive library where you can relax and read your favourite book. But the catch is that you cannot use your phone in the library. In fact, you won’t find any WiFi, T.V and telephone in any of the rooms. It is the best retreat if you are contemplating digital detox.

Tsustaya Book Apartment, Tokyo.

Amidst the bustling Shinjuku, booklovers all over the world can find their own personal piece of heaven. You can pay by the hour here, and it is opened for 24 hours. Settle down on a cushioned bench among the shelves filled with books. You can also opt for a private booth with a bit of extra tariff.
