UFO sightings are not uncommon; in fact, even before mankind even witnesses an airplane or helicopter, there were many incidents reported of Unidentified flying objects or UFOs. The reports of sightings are found in many inscriptions dating back to ancient Egyptian civilization. Let’s have a look are some of the famous historical UFO sightings that shook the world.
Kenneth Arnold’s UFO sighting, 1947
A civilian pilot named Kenneth Arnold was flying his aircraft near the famous Mount Rainier in Washington on June 24, 1947. While flying, he noticed nine glowing orbs of blue colour flying fast (approximately 1700 mph) and were forming a V. At first, he dismissed them as some sort of new technology in military aircraft because it was the time of the cold war. On investigation, he found that there was no training or testing that was conducted in Mount Rainier that day. When Arnold was asked to describe the mysterious aircraft, he explained that the aircraft looked similar to saucers when you skip them across the water. That is how the term flying saucer came into existence. Experts could not offer any plausible theory on it but expelled the sighting as Arnold’s hallucination.
Lights in Lubbock, 1951
Three professors of science were enjoying a lazy evening chatting outdoor on August 25, 1951, in Lubbock. Suddenly, they witnessed a strange thing; lights in semicircle flew above them in an unnatural speed. Suddenly, within few days,people reported the same light sighting around the area, and Carl Hart Jr, a Texas Tech freshman, even managed to capture the lights in his camera. When Air Force started investigating the lights, they announced that it was not a UFO rather birds who were reflecting luminescence. But skeptics still are not convinced by this narrative and cannot understand how birds can fly at such unnatural speed.
The Belgian Wave, 1989-1990
This is probably the longest reported series of UFO sightings till today. It started in November of 1989 and went till April of 1990. It is estimated about 13,500 people have been said to witness large flying objects which were triangular in shape. Finally, in the spring of the year 1990, the military intervened, and their fighter pilot was sent to investigate the sighting. It is believed that they even pursued some of them, but it flew far from their range before they could observe it.
