Satyajit Ray is a famous director, writer and illustrator, and he is also an institution of Indian cinema. His work, The Apu Trilogy, brought world worldwide recognition to Indian cinema.

SatyajitRay was born on 2nd May 1921, in the city of joy Calcutta. His creations were in the Bengali language, yet they gained popularity among the movie maniacs of the world. The organising committee of the Berlin Film festival also awarded him as the best director of all time in 1978. His humanistic approach towards cinema ranked him among the great masters of world cinema.

No matter which generation you belong to, but these creations by Satyajit Ray is a must-watch for all.

PatherPanchali. In 1955, Ray made his directorial debut with this movie and then he looked back. This movie from the BibhutibhushanBandhopadhyay novel. The film revolves around the life of a young boy, Apu living in an Indian village. PatherPanchali is an inspiration to many young directors around the globe. PatherPanchali (1955), Aparajito (1956) and ApurSansar (1959) are the three movies of the series The Apu Trilogy.

Sonar Kella. A film based on Ray’s novel became a milestone for its subject. Until 1974, the detective genre was an unexplored subject in Indian cinema, but the adventures of Feluda and Topshe became the most loved detective story of all time. The movie Sonar Kella reflects the classic signature screenplay of Satyajit Ray.

Charulata. A 1964 film based on Rabindranath Tagore’s Nastanirh (The broken nest). It revolves around the tale of Charulata, the wife of news editor Bhupati. Charulata is a beautiful illustration of a relationship between a workaholic husband and his lonely housewife. It is one of Ray’s personal favourites.

GoopyGyneBaghaByne. It was his first adventure comedy film that released in 1966. The story of the film is by Upendrakishore Ray Chowdhury, grandfather of Satyajit Ray. GoopyGyneBaghaByne revolves around the story of Goopy, Bagha and their adventures.

Mahanagar. A 1963 masterpiece, Mahanagar is one of the most-watched movies in India and the world. It is inspired by NarendranathMitra's,  Abataranika which talks about the upliftment of women in society. The story revolves around a woman from a middle-class family who takes a step to break the family stereotype by working as a saleswoman.
