Tekken 7: Five Best Characters For Beginners

Who in the game roster will guide you to fathom the mechanics and enjoy sweet-sweet victories from the very start of your Tekken journey?

Tekken was not, and never will be, easy to master. Some characters’ movesets are just more intuitive and immediately rewarding than others, which might take a few days of hard training to pick up. Most important to Tekken 7 though, is finding someone who feels right. Some beginner-friendly picks might not be your jam, and you might have a natural knack at, say, Yoshimitsu. Below is a list of the five best character picks for a beginner.

Asuka

Asuka is a defensive character and has reached a super high level in this fighting style. Her long-range kicks help distance her from enemies while dealing hefty damage. She’s got some moves that can quickly help her gain the advantage, like her sharp mid punches.  Asuka is an excellent choice if you like to stay safe and avoid unnecessary risks.

Miguel

Miguel is a simple offensive character with many situational moves. The attacks of Miguel are damaging and quick, especially his pokes, and they can be easily linked into combos. That speed and power can make opponents panic (mostly your fellow beginners). It might be difficult to predict what Miguel will do, and you will have a good arsenal of different moves to react to the moment.

Katarina

Katarina is a character for the offensive style. Choose Katarina if you are willing to take that risk but have a chance to burst your fighter with the explosive power. Try and focus on high kicks - her hop kick is awesome. Avoid low kicks not to create openings. Katarina has a very good range of attacks, so you don’t have to bother with proper positioning.

Leo

If you’re playing against another newcomer to the franchise, Leo can effectively manipulate where that opponent goes on the stage. She’s got a ton of moves that can knock enemies to the floor, effectively offering you time to back up and reconsider your strategy, too.

 Claudio

Claudio has very dangerous attacks in his arsenal and can inflict huge damage. Just try out his hop kick and experiment with it as a combo starter. While the basic moves of Claudio are easy to execute, his special power-ups in the Starburst state can be a bit tricky - you need to remember the consequences of moves (that’s true for many other beginner characters, though).

Being a beginner has obvious downsides but you learn while you play. So, enjoy the game!
