The Assist King Leaves Arsenal

After sitting on the sidelines for a year, the player has finally bid farewell to the Gunners

To everybody in the football community, Mesut Ozil’s omission from the line-up sheet was a shocker. Since 2020, the club of Arsenal left the performer on the sidelines because of conflicts in the political philosophies between the player and the club. After spending seven seasons with the team from Islington, Arsenal has finally ended the contract of Ozil, which was supposed to run out in June 2021. Known as ‘The Assist King’, the outcast star of Arsenal has reached Turkey and will resume his career with club Fenerbahce.

Upon discovering the news, a close friend and teammate Shkodran Mustafi tweeted, “Bro, you have been the most unselfish player on and off the pitch, I have ever shared the dressing room with. You will be always remembered as the #AssistKing. Unfortunately, we as a team haven’t been able to assist you when you needed us the most. All the best.”

While Mesut has left the English club and is already in the dressing room of the Turkey-based club, let’s have a look at the 32-year-old midfielder’s career so far.

Leading the assist chart in La Liga

In 08/09 for Werder Bremen (Bundesliga), Mesut Ozil recorded three goals and 15 assists because of which he came under the radar of several leading clubs. His attacking credentials and playmaking skills were absolutely marvellous and therefore, he was named as the best player of the first half in the 09/10 campaign. However, it was in La Liga where Mesut Ozil in the white jersey of Real Madrid turned himself into ‘The Assist King’.

In his very first season with Real Madrid, Mesut Ozil provided 25 assists in all tournaments and became the player with most assists. In his next season of 11/12, the German player scored several goals and provided numerous assists, which earned him a nomination for the Ballon d’Or award and UEFA Best Player in Europe Award.

Bringing glory to Arsenal

After having an outstanding time at Real Madrid, Mesut Ozil joined Arsenal in 2013 and continued his superior form. From scoring goals in the FA Cup to becoming the assist leader in the Premier League, Mesut Ozil was an imperative part of the club Arsenal as he supported the side to pick up several trophies.

It’s unfortunate how the player and the club have separated after seven long years because of their dogmas. However, the world is cheerful to see Mesut in action again.
