The great director Steve McQueen films you must watch

Keeping his forte for bringing to screen real stories, his execution is at par

Sir Steve Rodney McQueen KBE, a British filmmaker and video artist, rose to prominence for the 2013 award-winning film 12 Years a Slave, an adaptation of Solomon Northup's 1853 slave narrative memoir. McQueen won the Academy Award for Best Picture, the BAFTA Award for Best Film, the Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture – Drama, and the New York Film Critics Circle Award for Best Director. With all these accolades for his services to the visual arts, he was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 2011. McQueen is also the first black filmmaker to have won the Academy Award for Best Picture.

Hunger

This 2008 historical drama stars Michael Fassbender, Liam Cunningham, and Liam McMahon. The story narrates the entire scenario of the 1981 Irish hunger strike. Fassbender portrays the role of Bobby Sands, a Provisional Irish Republican Army (IRA) member who was responsible for leading the second IRA hunger strike. The film beautifully outlines the events in the Maze Prison during the period that lead to the hunger strike and its aftermath. Its premiere at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival won the prestigious Caméra d'Or award for first-time filmmakers.

Shame

This2011 British psychological drama set in New York again stars Michael Fassbender along with and Carey Mulligan. The story is of two grown siblings, played by Michael Fassbender and Carey Mulligan. Though the film received positive reviews because of Fassbender and Mulligan's authentic performance, the realistic essaying of sexual addiction and impeccable direction, its explicit scenes of sexual addiction got it an NC-17 rating in the United States.

Widows

This2018 film is McQueen's heist thriller direction is based upon the 1983 British television series of the same name. The film's story follows four Chicago women who attempt to steal $5,000,000 from the home of a politician. The theft attempt is to pay back a crime boss from whom $2,000,000 was stolen by the women's husbands before they get killed in a getaway attempt.

A few others of his films are Widows and Small Axe. For his work, in 2014, McQueen was included by Time magazine in its annual Time 100 list of the "most influential people in the world". In addition, the 52-year-old director was granted the British Film Institute's highest honour, the BFI Fellowship. Just last year, McQueen was awarded the Award for Cinematic Production by the Royal Photographic Society.
