Panem is the fictional world in The Hunger Games series – a nation constituting 13 districts. All the districts played a crucial role in creating and reshaping their society.

All the thirteen districts may not have been mentioned thoroughly in Katniss’s story, but all of them had a critical role in the rebellion across Panem. Find out what each district is famous for.

District 1

The residents of District 1 are known for producing luxury items like jewellery, owing to their skilled craftsmanship. Some of the wealthiest citizens of Panem are from District 1, and the goods produced by them are used to decorate the Capitol.

District 2

Home to one of the largest communities and wealthy citizens of Panem. This district is best known for weapon manufacturing and masonry.

District 3

Technology is the main industry of this district, and the people produce computers, televisions, and other electronic devices. It is one of the most rebellious districts of Panem.

District 4

The citizens of District 4 specialize in fishing and are very good-looking. They trained from a young age to prepare for the Games.

District 5

This district was responsible for the generation of power and electricity for Panem. It is home to a hydroelectric dam where most of the citizens work.

District 6

District 6 is the transportation hub that forms the network all across Panem. The residents of this district supported Katniss’ efforts to rebel against the Capitol.

District 7

The area around District 7 is surrounded mostly by trees, and it supplies Panem with lumber.

District 8

District 8 is best known for its textile industry, and one of its many factories was solely dedicated to manufacturing the uniforms of the Peacekeepers.

District 9

District 9 primarily focuses on grain production, and it is the least referenced district in the entire Panem.

District 10

District 10 is home to the livestock industry, and the main job of the people is to raise animals for meat and supply it to the Capitol.

District 11

This area located in the Southern region of Panem focuses mainly on agriculture, and the land is covered in crop fields, orchards, and cattle farms. It is one of the poorest districts, with citizens living in small shacks.

District 12

It is the poorest and smallest district in Panem. District 12 is located in Appalachia, and its primary industry is coal mining. Peeta, Katniss, Gale, and Haymitch are notable members of District 12.

District 13

It was assumed that district 13 was destroyed by the Capitol during the First Rebellion, but a settlement was made, and it was allowed to act as an independent nation. Before it seceded, it was known for graphite mining but producing nuclear technology was its hidden industry.
