The rise and rise of OTT platforms in India

Admit it, you are now spoilt for choices when it comes to choosing from what to watch on TV.

Gone are golden days when you had only one or two channels to make a choice from. With the pandora’s box of entertainment opening up, you now have zillions to options to choose from. From movies, short films, documentaries, sports, webs series, science fiction to various edutainment choices dancing at the mercy of your fingertips, it’s time to pamper yourselves.

With the uncertain times due to the pandemic, watching movie in theatres is no more of a luxury. Although the size of the screens has shrunk, the thrill of experiencing movies refuses to go away.  Maybe on a television or the laptop, we have countless platforms/apps like MX Player, Amazon Prime or Netflix which are spoiling you with choices on the OTT platform. With so much consumption of content happening every day, India is surely set to become the sixth-largest OTT market in the world.

With more and more people flocking to the cities with families, their lifestyle and source of entertainment have gradually changed. This also includes gradual adaptation of Western culture and entertainment from around the world which has defined thinking processes.

The one defining aspect about OTT platforms is that it offers the option to watch anything. Tired of traditional TV serial content? Switch to any genre, any entertainment or movie at the tip of your fingertips. Thankfully, you don’t need to be stuck with same old run-of-the-mill stuff for an endless time.

With the advent of newer and advanced technologies like Artificial Intelligence and Big Data Analysis, users are in for a great time in OTT space. And for a country with a population of about 135 crores, India needs to ramp up its technological infrastructure to lend a great viewing and streaming experience for its viewers. Till then, with more and more avenues in OTT opening up, customer along with the content, are the joint kings.
