There is so much to the world of music than what meets the ear of a connoisseur. From every corner, street and ally come a sound unique to its origin. Such is the power of music, which knows no boundary or region. From every corner of the world emerges sounds and music that is different and an identity. In an effort to preserve and encourage the diverse range of music, UNESCO started a project called the UNESCO Coty of Music to recognise music across the world. Under this, it takes cities and countries that produce and are huge supporters and promoters of music. Among the 47 countries, here is your list of Cities of Music that music connoisseurs should visit.

Almaty

The largest city in Kazakhstan, Almaty is also the major commercial and cultural centre of the country. The city became a part of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network in the area of music in 2017. To understand that better, visit the musical instrument museum Kazakh Museum of Folk Musical Instruments. One can find more than 1000 items of instruments that are divided into 60 types of Kazakh national musical instruments.

Brno

A city in the South Moravian Region, Brno is the second-largest city in the Czech Republic. The city is also known for the Špilberk Castle, Veveří Castle, the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul. In fact, Villa Tugendhat is part of the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites. However, the city became a member of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network, being designated "City of Music" in 2017. Listen to its traditional Moravian folklore through folk festivals, folk music, and dances. The festivals held regularly are the International Music Festival Brno, the Spilberk International Music Festival, and the Summer Shakespeare Festival.

Morelia

In central Mexico, the city oozes history and culture. The city was declared one of UNESCO's World Heritage Sites for its well-preserved colonial buildings of the historical centre in 1991. The city became part of the UNESCO City of Music in 2017. You can visit the annual Festival Internacional de Música de Morelia event comprising more than 40 concerts with over 500 artists.
