Things to do for a post-workout glow
While exercising is good, keep in mind these quick tips for a healthy skin
While keeping our bodies physically fit we are making our skin healthier and happier. Exercising improves blood circulation, in turn boosting our complexion keeping acne at bay and reducing skin irritation. So it is important that we take care of our skin before and after workouts.
Know the process Before a workout the skin is dull, cells are on a rest mode and during exercising there is easy blood circulation, especially in the skin cells. We release toxins leading to pores opening up and clearing out the impurities. The sweat further adds to the skin glow as it helps the body release endorphins feeling refreshed, and less stressed. Workouts also stimulate the production of skin’s natural oils leading to a radiant complexion.
Routines for before and after a workout
Before workout a quick face cleansing is required to remove products from the night before. Apply an antiperspirant roll-on on the underarm skin as a lot of friction combined with sweat can cause skin damage.
*Pre-workout
Wipe-off any cosmetics before a workout as it blocks the skin pores and sweat glands making it difficult for the skin to breathe. Wash the face with a mild cleanser before and apply a moisturizer and lip balm as excessive sweating can make the skin dehydrate. If working out outdoor, apply a sunscreen of at least SPF 30 as protection from the harmful UV rays Or use an antiperspirant
*Post-workout
Not treating skin post a workout is the trigger for acne. It is recommended to take care of the skin within five minutes of finishing exercising.
Firstly, don’t let the sweat sit on your face for a long time as you will be letting the bacteria get trapped in the skin. Take a cold water shower closing pores and letting the skin cool down, gets rid of sweat, dirt, and oil from your skin. As the skin gets sensitive don’t apply any product straight away after a workout. Once dry, apply a cooling gel and moisturizer. One can use antioxidant-rich argan oil as a post-workout moisturizer, followed by your bedtime routine.
Things to avoid it is recommended to avoid the use of hair conditioners containing isopropyl myristate as sweat lets it flows down to our face causing acne. Preferably wear light and loose clothes to let the skin breathe, preventing irritation and rashes. Never exercise with makeup on as it will clog pores and don’t wipe the sweat with a towel with makeup on as it will push the bacteria deeper into the pores leading to breakouts.
A workout is the best skin booster as it flushes out toxins and helps in the regeneration of skin cells. This is the reason why our skin starts glowing after working out.
