Some of us continuously look at Instagram and Pinterest to see what the trending hair colour is right now. From light and dark colours to highlights, there is a multitude of options available. It can be confusing as well as overwhelming, as hair colour can change your look entirely.

Below we provide a helping hand by giving you a list of things you need to know before colouring your hair.

  • Search social media for inspiration
When you are looking for your desired hair colour, social media is your best friend. Look through Instagram and Pinterest to identify the colour and shade you prefer. It will help you also identify the shades you don’t want, thus, cutting down the list of available hair colours. Don’t forget to carry a photo of your desired hair colour so your stylist can understand your requirements better.
  • Your skin’s undertone is key
Red hair colour would look different on you and your friend, and the reason is your skin undertones are different. There are three main undertones – warm that is yellow golden tones; cool that is pink, red or bluish tones; or somewhere in between. Generally, ashy hair colours suit people with cool undertones and golden-toned hair colours suit people with warm undertones. The best way to identify is by looking at the veins on your wrist. If the veins appear blue, you have a cool undertone, and red implies a warm undertone. However, this does not mean that you won’t look beautiful in a certain colour because all you need is the confidence to rock it.
  • Maintaining the coloured hair
Certain shades like red, ashy and blonde require more care because they tend to fade quicker. Therefore, you will need to book continuous appointments with your stylist to touch up the colour and maintain. But if you have a busy lifestyle and cannot keep up with multiple hair appointments, then opt for ombre or balayage shades, and they are more forgiving and fade when they grow out.
  • Consult your stylist
If you are still struggling to find the right hair colour for you, then consult your stylist as they can give their expertise on a colour that will suit your lifestyle and your skin tone.

The most important thing to remember is that you can always change your hair colour if you don’t like it.
