Things you can do to help an abandoned newborn kitten

Caring for a newborn kitten without a mother.

Kittens that are taken care of by their mother cat will be heaped together and possibly asleep. Abandoned kittens, on the other hand will be dirty, the area around them soiled and crying out because they are hungry.

If you do not spot the motheror have observed that the kitten is completely on its own, and wish to rescue, adopt or foster them, it’s time to get started.

Find a warm carrier

The first thing to do for an abandoned kitten is to find a warm carrier. Boxes with holes cut out in them can be used for emergency, or if you don’t have a cat carrier. Make sure you have placed warm materials inside cause newborn kittens need warmth to be healthy. Wrap them like burritos and place them in the carrier. Insulate the box if possible.

Check their health

The most important thing about newborn kittens is to make sure they are always kept warm. If their paws are cold, immediately wrap them up in a blanket or something warm.

Take them to a vet

The newborn kittens should be taken to a veterinarian for thorough examination. Kittens from feral can have diseases and fleas stuck to them. Parisitic infestations are common for kitten whose mothers were not vaccinated. Newborn kittens should be given immunizations as soon as two to three weeks. Any other health concerns can be taken care by the vet.

Build them a safe warm place

Building a safe space for the newbrn kitten in your house should be a warm place, away from strong gusty winds or moisture. The kitten should be placed in a place from where it can tumble over. If the kitten is not warm enough, artificial warmth can be generated by wrapping a heating pad in a towel and putting in under the nest of the kitten.

Less human contact

Limit the number of people who come to visit your newly adopted kitten. If the kitten is no vaccinated, too much of foreign contact can lead to infection and other diseases.

Bottle feed the kittens

Since a newborn kitten won’t have a mother to drink milk from, you will have to bottle feed it milk several times a day for the first three weeks. Kitten formula is available plenty in pharmacies and online. The kitten may be placed on the belly and you feed them wither in a feeding bottle or use an eyedropper.

Litter training them

Training kittens to go bathroom in a litterbox is easy. Litter that does not clump is better for kittens as the other type can cause digestive issues if it eats the litter.
