If we were to go by the actual meaning of the name Meghalaya, it stands for an abode of clouds, and rightly so. The state of Meghalaya is a land of lush green patches, waterfalls, lakes, and jungles. Interestingly enough, this state in the northeast was formed by carving out two districts from the state of Assam: the United Khasi Hills, Jaintia Hills, and the Garo Hills. Meghalaya is a state of rich culture, tradition, customs, and cuisines that deserves a visit once. So here is a list of things that you can do in Meghalaya.

Exploring the Mawlynnong Village

Mawlynnong village is given the title of the ‘cleanest village in Asia’ as well as promotes eco-tourism. While also being called God’s Own Garden, the village is also famous for achieving a 100 percent literacy rate. Besides the literacy rate, the village is also known for its lush green landscape. The village gives tourists the joy and firsthand experience of interacting with the locals, witnessing the tribal lifestyle, and spending time with them. Mawlynnong is also counted among the most exotic tourist places to spend a day for a time far from the worries. Places to visit are Sacred Forest, Nohkalikai Falls, Mawkdok Valley View Point, Mawsmai Cave, Dain-Thlen Falls.

A beautiful trek to Living Root Bridges

The natural formation of a bridge between trees is one of the topmost attractive and fascinating destinations of the state. The bridge is the perfect mix of natural beauty and a man’s need. It is said that Khasi tribe people trained these bridges to grow from the roots of rubber trees. The most stunning bridge is Umshiang Double-Decker Bridge which is more the 180-year old. The bridge is spread across the thick dense valleys of Khasi Hills.

Visit India’s tallest plunge waterfall - Nohkalikai Waterfalls

The waterfall is located a few kilometers from Cherrapunji and falls down from the height of 1115 feet. It is also famous for being the highest waterfall in India.
