Tips For Taking The Perfect Selfie

Taking a good selfie isn’t that hard. But we all know the feeling of looking frumpy in a selfie when in real life we are looking no less than a goddess. If you are trying to break-up with your camera thinking it has become cold and vengeful towards you, stop. Here’s help, gorgeous!

Most people just keep snapping away on their phone, taking one selfie after the other, hoping for a good picture out of a dozen. But, you don’t have to be most people. Here are some awesome tips for taking a cute selfie – every single time.

Tilt and Snap Put your phone in such an angle that it is either slightly to the side, up, or down. Or, simply tilt your head slightly while keeping the camera straight. Unless you have a perfectly symmetrical face, taking a straight selfie most often doesn’t result in a flattering shot.

Eyes Matter – A Great Deal! We are drawn to a person’s eyes in any photo we come across. To take a bomb selfie, lock your eyes with the camera lens. Look directly at the camera, and not at the sides of the phone. Simply freeze, focus, and gaze deep and intensely into the lens of your phone.

Let There be Light Whether you are taking the selfie indoors or outside, make sure there’s enough natural light – or soft light. Otherwise, your selfies will come out blurry and overexposed. Go for a selfie near a light source in case you are taking a picture inside a dark room. The best time for outdoor selfies is post sunrise and right before sunset.

Try a Natural Smile It is often awkward to smile naturally at the camera. Most of us resort to an unnatural smile that looks stiff, robotic, inauthentic, and most times, just creepy. However, to get a natural expression and not be camera conscious, you may need to practice. Find your perfect smile – pout, purse your lips, bare your pearlies, open your mouth halfway, give a side smile, turn up the corners of your lips just slightly, go for a close-lipped smile. Which feels the most authentic “you?” Make that your signature smile for selfies.

The Background is Important Inside the car. In front of a blank, pink bedroom wall. In front of the mirror at the gym. These are great selfie places. You absolutely don’t need a fashion runway in your background, but it shouldn’t be boring either. Whether you are taking a selfie at the park, school or your home, try to do so in front of an interesting background.
