Tips to avoid procrastination like a pro

We have all been guilty of procrastinating on our assignments or work projects and leaving it till the last minute.

Procrastination is equivalent to a bad habit that we can’t just quit. But like any other addiction, all you need is some will power to overcome it.

So, build up that strength, take out your notebook and pen and start noting down our tried and tested tips for avoiding procrastination.

  1. Organize your tasks
The first step you need to take is organizing all your tasks. Stop sticking post-it notes on your computer or laptop and invest in a planner or use the calendar app on your phone. By organizing, you can track all the individual tasks you need to get done along with their submission dates.
  1. Break them down into smaller parts
One reason we procrastinate is that we get overwhelmed with the work that we have to do. To break through that, divide the big task into smaller achievable goals. And if it still seems too much, you can further break them down into tiny tasks. This will result in many smaller simpler tasks that will be manageable.
  1. Create a timeline with deadlines
After breaking down your tasks, you need to create a timeline, which includes deadlines for each of the smaller tasks also. Therefore, you are aware that if you don’t finish the smaller task by the deadline, then everything else gets pushed back. This will eventually delay you from meeting the main deadline of the big task.
  1. Get rid of the distractions
In addition to planning and organizing, you also need to get rid of the distractions around your environment. If you end up spending too much time on your phone between tasks, keep the phone in another room.

Another alternative is changing your environment. If sitting on your desk or bed makes you want to sleep, then head to a coffee shop or a library. Try changing your environment often so that you do not lose your inspiration to be productive.

  1. Tell someone about your goals
It is easy to put off your work until the last minute if only you are accountable for your goal. But if you tell a family member or friend, then they can help you keep track of your goals and hold you responsible for it.

Let’s be productive and achieve our goals!
