Tips to heal your ankle injury
A little knowledge about self-recovery can be really helpful, isn’t it?
If you are also like me, for whom getting a sprain in the ankle is nothing new, then you must definitely know a few hacks that can help you get some relief, if not immediately, but eventually. Visiting doctors and taking medicines are, of course, the first aid that everyone must follow, but at times just medicines do not work on your sprained ankle, maybe because there are things you are doing wrong with your leg during those days. So here are a few tips that, in combination with medicine, are going to help you heal from your ankle injury.
Rest for a few days
Ankle injuries do not get settled if you do not rest. There are people who, despite being in pain, keep moving their legs or give strain to it. This might cause discomfort or swelling of the leg. So, it is advised to rest and not move your leg for a few days, if required, weeks. Try this, and you can notice a positive change in your injury soon.
Keep your leg in an elevated position
Not most of us are aware that ankle injury does not get soothed by having medicines and walking, and keeping your leg in any position. It will worsen the case. Always make sure to keep your injured leg in an elevated position so that the leg does not swell up. If you keep your leg hanging from a bed, sofa, or chair, a gel accumulates in the injured area, and it swells, which can make it harder for you to walk. Recovering in such cases also takes time. So, always while resting, place a pillow below your leg so that it is resting in an elevated angle.
Apply Ice compress
One of the fastest ways to recover from an ankle injury is the continuous application of ice compress. The cool effect that we get from ice helps to relieve the pain on the spot, at least for some time. And if you can keep applying ice compress at least 4-5 times a day, the recovery will take the least time than you thought. Of course, provided you keep your medications on time.
Soft exercise
Keep performing soft and light exercises. Be noted, we are not asking you to start exercising right after the injury, but after a few days, when you feel the pain has soothed a little. Soft exercises like rotating your ankle clockwise and anticlockwise, then upwards and downwards, are some of the exercises that you can do eventually. This will keep your muscles in movement, and the cells will remain active. This can help you recover a little faster if done wisely.
Follow these tips, and we hope you have a speedy recovery!
