Tips to provide a safe sleep space to your baby

As a parent, you will surely know the feeling that comes after hearing the first cry of your bundle of joy and that sound transforms you from a commoner to a warrior.

People are the most vulnerable when they are sleeping; now imagine how vulnerable a baby is when it sleeps. But it is not possible for you to keep an eye on your baby all the time when it sleeps as you too need to relax a bit. So the best you can do is to provide a safe space for your baby, and here are the tips for doing that.

A firm surface to sleep on

A firm mattress in a bassinet is a must for your baby as it ensures that the baby doesn't roll over, and it also ensures that the posture of your baby is correct. It allows the body to go on restful sleep, and there are no chances of your baby waking up other than being hungry.

Put nothing on the bed.

The bed of your baby should be free from any loose items like blankets, toys, bumpers etc. Babies are curious beings, and out of curiosity, they might pick up the loose item and put it in their mouth. This increases the risk of suffocation.

Sideways is the wrong way.

Never place your baby sideways while putting them to bed, as it will make your baby roll over on their tummy easily. If this happens, then it increases the chances of your baby planting their face on the bed and unknowingly and restricts the airway. This might cause suffocation too.

Sharing bed? No, they do that when they grow up.

I know. I know you don't want to lose sight of your baby. But you see, when you put your baby to sleep on the same bed, the chances are that you might roll over unknowingly on your baby. When you are sleeping, you are not that cautious, and you might unknowingly put your hand on your baby's face and cause suffocation.

Place the bassinet in your room.

As sharing a bed is not an option, then what can you do? Just place the bassinet in your room. In this way, you can always look over your baby and ensure safety. And you know what; the safest place for your baby to sleep is the place nearest to you.

Now that you have understood how to make a safe place for your baby to sleep, prepare a checklist, go to your baby’s room and inspect.
