Comedy films that will make your stomach ache

Bollywood has always made world-class movies in comedy. From the sixties onwards, hundreds of outstanding comedies have been made in Indian Cinema. Directors like Satyen Bose, Jyoti Swaroop, Kundan Shah, and Sai Paranjape had made milestone comedy movies before the '90s. And David Dhawan, Rajkumar Hirani, Kamal Hassan, Shoojit Circar, and Abhishek Sharma, have continued the legacy onwards.

Now, let’s talk a little about some of them.

Padosan

It can be marked as the first-ever comedy movie in Bollywood. Director Jyoti Swaroop made something which was unbelievable, not only for the Indian Filmmakers but also for the then filmmakers of the entire world. Comedy with music using songs was completely a new thing that was presented by Swaroop Ji. Sunil Dutt, Mehmood, Saira Banu and Kishore Kumar- have done something that is still an inspiration for the film artists. The film was released in 1968.

Angoor

The Bollywood adaptation of Shakespeare's ‘The Comedy of Errors’ by Gulzar, Angoor was released in 1982. Sanjeev Kumar, Deven Verma and Moushumi Chatterjee played the leads. And Sanjeev Kumar has been marked as the best comedy actor by critics for this film. The newcomers always follow the characters of Sanjeev Kumar in this film to learn about how to do comedy in a classic story.

Gol Maal

It is considered to be the best comedy film of Bollywood acclaimed throughout the world. The film was directed by the legendary Hrishikesh Mukherjee and was released in 1979. The story moves around an unemployed guy who runs in search of a job with a fake moustache on his face. The character was played by the great actor Amol Palekar. Another lead character was played by the Legend Utpal Dutt. Besides, Bindiya Goswami, Manju Singh, Shubha Khote, Buaji Kalindi, Dina Pathak, Deven Verma, and Ratna Sharma also played their characters in a very soothing way.

Other legendary films by Hrishikesh Mukherjee that must be mentioned are Chupke Chupke in 1975, and Khubsoorat in 1980.

Hera Pheri

Inspired by a Malayalam film Ramji Speaking which was released in 1989. Though it is a remake, it is a unique art piece on its own. It is a cult of Indian Comedy where all the artists have played their roles with enormous excellence. Paresh Rawal as Baburao, Akshay Kumar as Raju, Sunil Shetty as Ghanashyam, Tabu as Anuradha, and Om Puri as Inspector Karap- Singh have endeavoured successfully to make the comedy to the next level. Directed by Priyadarshan this movie was released in the year 2000.
