The motorsport has millions of hardcore fans around the world who not only follow drifting championships and legends, but also practice the art form. As mentioned in the strapline, the world has no dearth of drift cars. However, not all of them are ideal drifting machines. A drift car must have a powerful engine with a significant amount of lower-end torque and a rear-wheel-drive; elements that are not found in every car with a drift tag. Given drift cars are expensive machines, a buyer should only invest his or her hard-earned money in a worthy vehicle.
Ford Focus RS
The Ford Focus RS went out of production, but since its debut, the car has been used in drifting and rally championships. Over the years, legendary Ken Block has burnt tons of rubber in the RS and as of 2022, one can find a model in the second-hand market.
Lexus SC400 and LC
Made its debut in 1991, the SC400 ruled the world of drifting till 2010. In 2017, the SC400’s successor LC made its debut that lived up to the expectations of drifters. The LC is armed with a 5.0-litre, V8 engine that makes a peak power of 471hp mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission. What makes the LC more special is its capability to perform daily commutes.
Nissan 370Z
Writing about drift cars and not mentioning the Nissan 370Z would be a sin we do not want to commit. One of the best Japanese drift cars, the Nissan 370Z features a basic V6 engine that makes 328hp. The car has won many drifting champions under different drivers because it is super easy to customize.
A few more drift cars that you must consider are the Supra A80, BMW E46 3 Series, Mazda RX-7, Mazda MX-5 Miata, Mustang S-550 and Corvette C6. However, our personal favourite is the Nissan Fairlady Z33.
