Films broke all the norms
It was not easy to overcome the stagnation in Indian Cinema from the eighties to the early part of the twentieth century. The one-sidedness of investors on the one hand, and the limitations of artists on the other, have kept the Indian audience one-sided for a long time. However, the light of hope has been seen in the hands of some new directors. Not only in Bollywood, but there have also been some outstanding experimental movies in regional languages in the last twenty years.
No Smoking
Experimental neo-noir by Anurag Kashyap was released in 2007. The story was written by Raj Singh Chowdhury and Anurag Kashyap. The story is about a person who was a chain smoker but tries to quit smoking. This is a combination of horror, drama, thriller and suspense altogether. The leads were played by John Abraham, Ayesha Takia, Paresh Rawal, Ranvir Shorey, Kiku Sharda, Akhauri P. Sinha, Joy Fernandez, and Karan Makhija.
The songs were written by Gulzar and the sound was composed by Vishal Bhardwaj.
AK vs. AK
Vikramaditya Motwani did some awesome experiments, AK Vs AK is the latest of them. The film was released in 2020 on Netflix. Avinash Sampath, Vikramaditya Motwani and Anurag Kashyap sat together and came out with the script. The film runs around the tussle between an actor and a director. The Characters were numerous. The actor was played by Anil Kapoor and the director was played by Anurag Kashyap. Sonam Kapoor also played the role of Anil Kapoor’s daughter.
Ship of Theseus
Anand Gandhi, another hit name for experimental movies. Ship of Theseus is one of his successful experiments. The story was written by Anand Gandhi, Khushboo Raka and Pankaj Kumar. A stockbroker, a monk and a photographer-the three leads explored the question of identity, beauty, and death throughout the movie. It was released in 2013.
Aankhon Dekhi
Actor-writer-director Rajat Kapoor has done some mind-blowing experiments in his career as a director. Ankhon Dekhi is the best of them where he claims that he wrote the story keeping Sanjay Mishra as the lead character in his mind. Sanjay Mishra and Rajat Kapoor played two brothers.
Abhinay Raj Singh, Seema Bhargava, Taranjit Kaur, Maya Sarao, Chandrachoor Rai, Namit Das, Brijendra Kala, Alka Chatwal, Manu Rishi Chadha, Mahesh Sharma, Anil Chaudhary, Manish Karnatak, Dhruv Uday Singh, Saurabh Shukla, Danish Husain, Yogendra Tikku- so many legendary actors were cast in the film.
