Wife-carrying

Wife-carrying? Pretty creepy, right? Well, this unusual yet funny sport is from the land of Finland. As the name represents, the husbands go through a track full of obstructions with their spouses on their backs. Annual events are held across the region and the most famous competition is the one which is held in Sonkajärvi. The champion of the race receives his wife’s weight in beer. Although weird, the sport has reached the shores of Australia and the U.S.

Sepak Takraw

From Malaysia and Thailand, Sepak Takraw is like volleyball. However, there’s a catch; the performers cannot apply their hands. Instead, they keep the ball in the air with the help of their feet, knees and chin. First sported in the 15th century, this sport is somewhat popular in the two Asian countries.

Yukigassen

Yukigassen from Japan means “snow battle.” As a kid, most of us have indulged in making balls of snow and launching at our friends. In Japan, this activity has been spun into a legitimate sport with several rules and guidelines. Yukigassen is matched between two sides that comprise seven players. Once a participant gets struck by a snowball, he or she is knocked out.

Wheelbarrow Racing 

Wheelbarrow Racing is a strange sport from Kenya, where one sits on the front of a wheelbarrow while another person pushes barrow to seal the first position. The competition is called “To Hell’s Gate on a Wheelbarrow,” named after a leading national park of the country. The national park includes a special racecourse made for this unique sport which is five kilometres long.
