TRASHY ROMANTIC FILMS- HEADACHE OR ENTERTAINMENT

Sometimes, when you are tired, or just want something which can take your mind off things, then depending on trashy romantic films might not be a bad idea. However, at the same time, this comes with a risk. Sometimes, they can serve your purpose by being extremely entertaining. Other times, they are just so terrible that you are tempted more than anything to just shut it, or if you are watching it on the big screen, walk out of the hall. Here’s to settling the debate!

IT’S A MEANS OF ENTERTAINMENT-

  1. Don’t need much focus- The good thing about such films is that you don’t need to focus. You can just watch. Such films are necessary sometimes. You can truly relax, and sometimes even have it as background play while you do other things. In any scene, you watch, you will know where the story is going. Therefore, it might be one of the best forms of entertainment and relaxation that you seek.
  2. Good when it is comic- It is even better when these films are comical, and funny situations play out, which are awkward. Well-made romantic comedy films are timeless. Romantic films without much depth but well-made can be seen at any time.

IT’S A HEADACHE-

  1. Sometimes, such inane storylines- Romantic films can even go the other way, as compared to the examples above. This can be a curse. Sometimes, the storylines can be so inane and boring, repetitive, and without any proper logic. Sometimes, they can also be extremely over-dramatic and this is very hard to sustain interest in. This is when the film becomes hard to keep watching and enjoying.
  2. Too sentimental- To drive some seriousness into it, romantic films become more sentimental than they should be, and as a result silly. A new release, Mitthe Premer Gaan is a classic example of this.
  3. Sometimes too long- Without a proper narrative, sometimes these films can keep bringing in extra details which do not add to the larger plot but make it even more absurd. As a result, the films become longer than they should be. This is a curse, especially when you are sitting in the hall. You are reminded of the amount of time that you have wasted watching the film!
A request to all directors- make it a watchable romantic film, not a headache!
