A 100-year-old market, the loud and vibrant Damneon Suduak floating market is located about 100 kilometres south of Thailand’s capital, Bangkok. Expect to witness hoards of locals and tourists, buying fresh fruits and vegetables and souvenirs from the local vendors. A well-known tourist spot in Thailand and around the world, you can navigate the entire market stretch by rowing on the boats or foot.

India’s own floating market is located in Kashmir’s Dal Lake. The market is a perfect combination of shikaras and fresh green vegetables, set against the backdrop of the scenic beauty of Kashmir. Open for only two hours in the morning (5 am to 7 am), the market serves as a socializing spot for locals living in the area. The Dal Lake market came in the international limelight after a Japanese photographer featured the boats in a tourist guide in 1960.

Interesting fact: Dal Lake is also home to India’s only floating post office.
