Types of edible oil and their benefits

Oil is one of the basic and staple ingredients for most of our favourite recipes. A slight change in its amount or type brings out huge differences in a recipe, that is why some particular recipes use a specific oil. But other than that you can be experimental with oil. Oils bring up the taste of the other ingredients and enhance it. From shallow to deep fry, from roasting to baking, every cooking technique needs oil. But when it comes to selecting an oil, there are plenty of options available, which one to choose is the biggest question. The oil can be chosen based on several factors like saturated and unsaturated fat, taste, smoke point, etc. It depends on the type of dish and the person for whom you are making, his/her personal choice. Here is a list of some of the edible oils and their benefits that are widely used.

Coconut Oil

Typically used in Indian recipes, coconut oil has several benefits. The best part about coconut oil is that its fats get more easily converted to energy than other fats, which help in boosting metabolism, curbing the appetite, and aiding weight loss. Along with that coconut oil is also beneficial for skin and hair, it promotes long and thick hair and glowing screen. With a moderate-heat roasting level, coconut oil is the perfect cooking oil for sauteing and roasting. It comes both in refined and unrefined forms.

 Extra-virgin olive oil

Extra-virgin olive oil is often considered the most healthy oil. It is mostly used in Mediterranean diets. And it contains no chemicals or heat and contains more natural vitamins and minerals. Extra-virgin olive oil is rarely used in cooking or and baking due to its high prices, rather it is often used for dipping and dressing.

Mustard Oil

Staple to the Indian dishes, Mustard oil is known for its unique taste and fizz. Mustard oil contains essential fatty acids that proved to be beneficial in the case of cardiovascular disorder. It also has antifungal and antibacterial properties. It is best for deep and shallow frying.

Avocado oil

Avocado oil is super versatile when it comes to its usage. Its high smoke point and delish taste make it suitable for all kinds of dishes, from cooked food to baked goods. Its anti-inflammatory properties make it healthy for the heart and prevent arterial damage, heart disease, and blood pressure.

Sunflower Seed oil

Sunflower seed oil is now being used as an alternative to vegetable oil and mustard oil for cooking. It has several amazing nutritional values which improve heart health, help fight cancer, lower bad cholesterol and boost energy. It has a very high cooking point which is great for searing chicken, fish, or tofu.
