Even though explorers have uncovered many great things about our planet earth, like the world’s tallest mountains or Antarctica’s deepest subglacial lakes, there are still some spots that remain a mystery. Here are some unexplored places across the globe.

There’s much to discover in Greenland

The Vikings landed in Greenland somewhere around 1000 CE. However, there is still much to discover in the far-northern region. Melting glaciers have unearthed new islands. About 80 per cent of the island is covered by an ice cap, which is why a lot of the inland part of the country is uninhabited.

The untouched Northern Forest Complex in Myanmar

On the steep slopes of the easternmost stretch of the Himalayas lies many subtropical forests that have remained untouched. This is an extremely important place for wildlife. The largest tiger preserve in the world is located in Myanmar’s Kachin State. These forests are also home to red pandas, bears, and gibbons.

Vale Do Javari in Brazil is extremely isolated

This area of Brazil is fascinating as it is home to approximately 14 of the Amazon’s uncontacted tribes. It is an extremely isolated part of the world. Around 2000 indigenous people live autonomously from the government of Brazil. The tribes’ right to live in isolation is protected and outsiders are prevented from invading indigenous territories.

Kamchatka in Russia houses over 300 volcanoes

Some of the most amazing volcanic activity on the planet is in the eastern peninsula of Russia. There are more than with more than 300 volcanoes. One of them has not stopped erupting since 1996. This area is also home to a wide range of salmon species. It is the most densely populated brown bear habitat on the planet.

Tsingy De Bemaraha National Park in Madagascar is not totally off-limits

This region is named after the massive limestone formations known as tsingy. The national park and wilderness preserve are located on Madagascar’s western edge. The needle-shaped limestone was formed by erosion over millions of years. What's more, animals and plants found here are unique to this place and are not found anywhere else in the world. Even though much of the reserve is off-limits to visitors, some parts are open to the public.

Wild landscapes dot the Northern Patagonia in Chile

The Northern Patagonia in Chile is a breathtaking place with a wild landscape. It includes glaciers, fjords, hot springs, and rainforests. The Northern Patagonian Ice Field is one of the largest masses of ice that is found outside the polar regions.
