Vegan or not, here’s why adding greens in your diet will make you healthier!

Glowing skin to a reduced risk of cancer, green veggies are going to help you in many ways.

The debate over whether veganism is necessary has been going on for a very long time. But whether you choose to go the vegan way or not, doctors, dieticians and fitness gurus will tell you that adding green vegetables in your regular diet will give you a longer and healthier life. Yet, it is surprising to know that more than half of the adult population don’t eat the recommended portion of greens per day. The common excuses made against having green vegetables are either they don’t taste good or that they’re expensive.

But, it is now time to change that mindset. Adding greens in the diet from an early age helps. But, even adults can change habits and start going the green way. So let us list out all the benefits one can get from having some leafy vegetables!

  1. Lower the risk of getting over-weight – Researches show that having 2-5 cups of fresh green vegetables per day can heavily reduce the risk of getting over-weight. Since half of the countries around the world have a higher population of over-weight adults as well as children, this small green addition can help reduce that.
  2. Keeps the brain healthy for a longer period – Eat your greens and you’ll have better memory! No, it is not just an excuse mothers make to get the children to eat vegetables. It is, in fact, a scientifically proven fact that a person who eats greens has slower rates of cognitive decline.
  3. Relieves stress – Often in our busy lives we find being extremely stressed by the end of the day. No amount of massages or soothing songs can take away that stress. But green vegetables can! Veggies help in creating mood-regulating neurotransmitters such as dopamine and serotonin.
  4. Makes your skin glow – Isn’t glowing young-looking skin just everyone’s dream? Well, a big glass of green smoothie or even your regular vegetables can help you achieve that. Leafy greens are full of Vitamin A, K and C, thus ensuring your body is happy and full of all the required vitamins.
  5. Reduce the risk of cancer and diabetes – Leafy veggies provide us with a ton of antioxidants and phytochemicals which help in reducing certain types of cancer. Greens also help in balancing the blood glucose levels, thus reducing the onset of diabetes.
Apart from these, vegetables also help in many ways which help us in leading a better life. So start eating those cabbages, broccoli, spinach and more. But be sure to always buy the fresh and non-chemically fertilised vegetables.
