There is no character that his actor has not played on stage or screen

Born as Krishna PanditBhanji, veteran actor Sir Ben Kingsley has a career that spans over five decades. The English actor throughout his career has played various difficult characters proving his mettle. Be it a Jew in Schindler's List or the smart and witty watchmaker in Hugo, the actor over the years has garnered numerous accolades, including a Grammy, Golden Globe, Screen Actors Guild, a BAFTA Award, and an Academy Award. Though he gave the first 15 years of his acting career to the theatre in the UK, his journey into films began with the 1972 film Fear Is the Key. Since then there has been no looking back. However, he is best known for his role as Mohandas Gandhi in Richard Attenborough’s 1982 film Gandhi, for which he won various awards. Here are a few suggestions for his films.

Fifty Dead Men Walking The film is loosely based on British agent Martin McGartland’s autobiographical account of the same name, as an undercover mole in the Provisional Irish Republican Army (IRA). This crime thriller with a gripping narrative stars Jim Sturgess as McGartland the British agent and Ben Kingsley as Fergus - his British handler. The story picks up after McGartland’s cover is blown and he is kidnapped by the IRA. The film goes on to show how he escaped from an interrogation, execution and went into hiding. The interesting fact being, at the time of the release of the film McGartland, was still in hiding.

Death and the Maiden The film is based on the 1990 play of the same name by Ariel Dorfman, who also co-wrote the screenplay for the film. The suspenseful story set in South American revolves around Paulina Escobar, played by Sigourney Weaver, who on a chance encounter with stranger Dr. Miranda, played Sir Ben Kingsley, is convinced that he was part of the old regime and that he tortured and raped her for weeks while she was blindfolded. The story picks up when Paulina takes him captive to determine the truth.

A Birder’s Guide To Everything A coming-of-age movie, the film follows the story of teenage birders who go on a road trip in search of a possibly extinct Labrador duck. The film is based on director Rob Meyer's short film Aquarium.
